New EU-Project: Real Deal - Reshaping European Advances Towards green Leadership Through Deliberative Approaches and Learning (REAL DEAL) [2]

The EU project Real Deal supports the EU on its way to climate neutrality. With the Green Deal, the EU wants to transform itself into the first climate-neutral region by 2050. Citizens are to be actively involved in this process. So far, this has not been the practice in many European institutions or in all EU countries. Therefore, the question arises: Which participation procedures are suitable on a pan-European level within the framework of the Green Deal? It is therefore necessary to review the existing procedures, analyze their suitability for the different country contexts and develop innovative formats. more to: New EU-Project: Real Deal - Reshaping European Advances Towards green Leadership Through Deliberative Approaches and Learning (REAL DEAL) [3]

Project starts: Berlin Mobility Data Hub [4]

Lupe [5]

The aim of the „Berlin Mobility Data Hub“ project is to create a digital data and knowledge platform for the systemic consolidation of Berlin-related data from passenger and freight traffic with special consideration of acquiring knowledge about the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on Berlin’s transport system.

On the basis if extensive identification of relevant data sources and the analysis of stakeholders’ current data-related needs and problems within the complex Berlin traffic landscape, the project approaches appropriate actors for the provision and sharing of traffic-related databases.

The data hub not only intends to integrate quantitative live data from public and private transport providers, mobile network providers and navigational data operators, but also aims to integrate qualitative databases and historical longitudinal data. In addition to the function of information and provision of data, analysis functions integrated in the hub shall enable direct evaluation options.

Escape Challenge Quantum Technologies (EsCQuTe) [6]

Lupe [7]

EsCQuTe's Escape Room is a worldwide novelty with its specialisation in quantum technologies. The focus of the Escape Room is on demonstrating the applicability and immediate benefits of physical technologies. Especially the playful approach and the element of surprise of the Escape Room are suitable to generate active participation and thus reach many people with diverse backgrounds.

The Escape Challenge Quantum Technologies will be a live escape game that challenges the players to solve exciting puzzles collaboratively. They are immersed in a world in which second-generation quantum technologies are already being used. The players are thus motivated to engage with the remarkable properties of the new quantum technologies in a playful way. The Escape Room concept will be made freely available to educational institutions and event organisers. In this way, a broad public is given the opportunity to participate in the social discourse on the development potential of quantum technologies.

Mobility2Grid Conference: “Lab2Reality”

Lupe [13]

Active since 2013, the Mobility2Grid Research Campus examines the possibility of integrating electric vehicles into an intelligent, locally-based energy grid. The Chair for Work Studies/Technology and Participation is involved in two of the campus’ research fields. On April 12, 2018 the campus hosted its annual Mobility2Grid Conference, Lab2Reality, during which research results were presented and practical applications were discussed.

The conference included a keynote lecture by Prof. Reinhard Hüttl from the Deutsches GeoForschungsZentrum, a lively podium discussion with international speakers, workshops dealing with five relevant topic clusters, and the world debut of the first bi-directional electric bus, presented by Dr. Sigrid Nikutta (BVG).

Problem-based Teaching in the Transition Era

Lupe [34]

Food, energy and transport sectors, just to mention a few, must rethink their current strategies and face their own specific set of challenges: sustainability, economic feasibility, and negative externalities. The transition towards a new model (and new technologies) is definitely on the political and economic agendas.

However, this implies an increased need for broadly educated, skilled engineers, able to frame those issues within social shifts, innovation and different business models. In the past two decades, new approaches have carried a fresh stance in STEM teaching: this workshop will discuss how problem-based teaching can shape a new generation of engineers, who can cope with complex tasks, well beyond technological competences.

In the framework of the strategic partnership between TUB and University of Technology Sydney, the workshop aims to share and discuss the current experiences.

The event will take place on Friday, the 29th of September 2017, from 10:00 to 12:00, at TU Berlin, Marchstraße 23, 10587 Berlin - Room MAR1.065b
