Professional School „SmartDemocracy“

Politicians and public authorities on all levels (municipalities, cities, states, and federal states) face two challenges

1.        an ever growing (bottom-up) pressure to open up for more citizen participation in decision making and

2.       the transition to a smarter and more digitalized administration in general and interacting with citizens in particular

The eit Professional School course “SmartDemocracy” will equip decision makers and public officials with the necessary knowledge on how to set up participatory processes and make the most of them, on how to avoid pitfalls, and how to choose the right tools and services to make digital participation work.

The course will follow a blended learning approach combining online teaching modules with face –to-face events. The course will introduce the participants via online teaching, which will be complemented by

-       online tutoring

-       setting up (online) peer-2-peer tandems for homework

-       and face –to-face workshops with peer exchange and practical planning of strategies.

The project starts in January 2018 and will be coordinated by the Institute of Vocational Education and Work Studies.
