The newly established Electro-Mobility Laboratory (Labor Elektromobilit√§t) will focus on electrically powered two-wheelers, from small electric scooters, pedelecs (motorized bicycles), e-scooters (45km/h), and electric motorcycles to small cabin vehicles, for example cargo transporters.

Electric two-wheelers are the most successful electric vehicle class in Germany. In 2012, over 300,000 vehicles were sold on the German market. In the next few years, two-stroke scooters (45km/h) with insurance plates will be removed from the market, which were allowed to drive in environmental zones despite their continual high local emissions.

Research in the newly established laboratory focuses on the development of new concepts for use for certain target groups and the development of new two-wheeler and micro mobility concepts, the investigation of network-friendly energy supply from renewable energy sources (controlled charging, energetic recovery systems networks), development of new micro mobile transport concepts for city centres, vehicle optimization in cooperation with manufacturers, the use of the laboratory in teaching electrical engineering at the Institute of Vocational Education and Business and Employment Studies (e.g. P1 Basic course/electro-laboratory) and for study and exam work.
