Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), in Palestine (West Bank and Gaza), exists in different categories:
1) 11 vocational schools and 10 community colleges.
2) 8
training centres for the Ministry of Labour, 20 youth training
centres, and 11 UNRWA (UN) training centres.
3) 170 NGO training
centres and other private providers.
The number of students
registered with the first category remains quite limited in respect to
those registered with classical schools and universities. More
specifically, the number of community college students is only 9% .
It, therefore, becomes important for Palestinian universities to
contribute to the development of research, and to teach curricula in
this domain. On the one hand, such research must follow the evolution
of research in these fields on an international level, and on the
other, it must develop its own studies based on Palestine specific
context- economy under occupation. The coupling of this academic
research with the development of university teaching courses will have
an important role in the implementation and monitoring of
institutional programs.
Currently, and within Palestinian
universities, there are faculties and departments dedicated to
Education Sciences. These departments deliver diplomas, of a rather
general character, in the sciences of education (Schools,
kindergartens, etc.). This project, which we propose as part of Action
2 “Capacity Building” of the Erasmus+ programme, aims at the
development of skills, and at rendering it possible to offer study
programmes in the fields of professional training and adult training.
This project will also provide a comprehensive training programme for
teachers of vocational schools and post-secondary professional
diplomas. On the European side two French and two German universities
are part of the Project.
