Planning and construction of a dynamic vibration absorber model


Short description: Vibrations of machines and buildings can have a negative impact on human health. In the simplest case this could lead to avoidance of vibration-prone buildings which would only have economic consequences and not necessarily a material deterioration or even the risk of stability. In the worst case a vibration excitation can lead to the collapse of a building. Bridges have to be mentioned as particularly vulnerable examples. The excitation of the natural frequency, caused by a larger group of people for example, can result in high stress on the material. The latest example of this is the Millennium Bridge in London which was opened in 2000 and had to be closed down only few days later because of its vibration response, which exceeded the calculated amplitudes by far and could have risked the stability. After some months and the addition of several vibration absorbers it could be reopened though. The principle behind the vibration-reducing measure of vibration damping is described in this work and reproduced on a model. The focus of this work is the presentation and description of the construction of a vibration absorber model from planning over calculating the technical parameters through to the assembly of components. This is followed by an explanation and an analysis of the measure of effectiveness of the model. Student’s work by: T. Jamitzky
